Working along with his wife Janet, their operation is one of the very first closed containment salmon farms in production in North America.

Steven Hall is Associate Professor and Director of the Marine Aquaculture Research Center in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University. His teaching and research focus on aquacultural engineering, water quality, energy efficiency in aquaculture, modeling in aquaculture, use of autonomous devices to perform relevant environmental, aquacultural and other operations, artificial intelligence, technical, social, educational and ethical issues, economics and engineering, bioengineered reefs and coastal restoration.

Steve Summerfelt is the chief science officer at Superior Fresh LLC, an aquaponics facility specializing in the production of Atlantic salmon and steelhead trout. He manages the company’s scientific research and technological designs to promote efficiency and profitability. Superior Fresh produces its fish in a state-of-the-art, land-based recirculation aquaculture facility in conjunction with premium, organic produce grown in an ultra-modern hydroponics glass greenhouse.

Yonathan Zohar

Yonathan Zohar is a professor and chair of the Department of Marine Biotechnology at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Zohar’s research program is primarily focused on basic and applied aspects of fish reproductive physiology and endocrinology. His research interests also include: broodstock management and hatchery technologies; aquaculture and fisheries biotechnology; and environmentally sustainable recirculating marine aquaculture.
