Jaap van Rijn

Jaap van Rijn is a professor at the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Environment at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and currently heads the Department of Animal Sciences. With a degree and PhD in Oceanography, one of his areas of expertise is the microbial ecology of fish culture systems and water quality evaluation for aquaculture systems. Deeply involved in the global “green revolution” and efforts to address world hunger, van Rijn is developing important new means of raising fish in eco-friendly ponds, creating a high-protein food source that is grown through non-polluting means.
